Clinical Operations
Clinical Operations is the group responsible for the clinical programme development of products. The type and size of a company will determine how much of a range this group covers, but generally clinical operations oversees clinical development from pre-clinical transition through to commercialisation of a product. Individuals in this group need good cross-functional communication skills and an understanding of the clinical drug development process. In some cases this might include input into the pre-clinical or drug discovery phases.
The group will often have responsibility for ensuring milestones, clinical trial management, budgets and programme goals. Ideally they will ensure smooth operational project management of all ongoing studies in the company’s product portfolio and pipeline. Individuals come from a variety of backgrounds in this area including nursing, project management, life sciences and medicine.
